Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
It is the use of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing technology in dentistry. As future dentistry applications, CAD/CAM technology is developing and becoming more popular. Thanks to digital technologies, both comfortable and faster treatments are possible. The main goal in digital dentistry is to minimize the risk of errors due to the human factor.
Performing a restoration with traditional methods in dentistry requires a long time, superior dexterity and many auxiliary dental materials. Especially in the production of prostheses, the design and construction stages have been improved thanks to CAD/CAM technology. In this way, it is possible to make aesthetic and durable prostheses with perfect harmony. After dental prostheses are designed in computer environment, they can be produced in two different ways. One of them is by milling the material in block form by a milling device, and the other is by producing the restoration by 3D printers.
